Richard Davis - President/Owner

Richard F. Davis, a South Carolina native, is the President of Capitol Consultants, which he founded in 1984.  Since that time, the company has grown to become the largest governmental affairs and association management firm in the state of South Carolina.  

Mr. Davis started his political career as a legislative assistant to a United States Congressman in Washington, DC.  He also ran the political campaigns for the Congressman during his tenure.  He later was employed by the clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives.  He moved to Columbia and became the Executive Vice President and Chief Lobbyist for South Carolina's largest trade association for ten years.  After that, he formed Capitol Consultants which has grown from a one person organization to a current staff of fifteen.  

Mr. Davis has been lobbying for more than twenty years, has hundreds of hours of testifying experience, and understands the uniqueness of effective political strategy.  He is the author of "A Manual for Incumbents", a book in its third printing that will be distributed in 2008 to all members of the legislature, constitutional officers, and elected officials throughout the state.  He also conducts a seminar entitled "How to Communicate Effectively with Members of the General Assembly" for clients and organizations throughout the state. 

As a strategic planning facilitator, Mr. Davis has developed a legislative strategic planning session that helps the client to focus on a more comprehensive legislative plan of action. 

Mr. Davis has won numerous legislative awards and recognitions, including the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian award given by the Governor for his state legislative accomplishments.  He has been featured in Influence Magazine, a Washington based publication.  The State newspaper in Columbia, SC, has named him the top lobbyist in South Carolina on numerous occasions.  Other national trade journals and publications have featured both Capitol Consultants and Mr. Davis.

Mr. Davis is a member of the Advisory Board of First Citizens Bank, the University of South Carolina Retail and Hospitality Board, the Town of Lexington (South Carolina) Planning Commission, former member of the Harvest Hope Food Bank Board of Directors, and a member of the Capital City, Palmetto and Summit Clubs.


Art Braswell - Senior Vice President

Art Braswell, a South Carolina native, is the Senior Vice President of the Environmental Services Division.  Prior to joining Capitol Consultants, Mr. Braswell was the Director of the Division of Mining and Solid Waste Management at the South Carolina Department of Heath and Environmental Control.  Recently retired with thirty years of service, Mr. Braswell worked in several programs areas at the Department, such as Air Quality, Waste Management, and Mining.  He has experience in permitting, compliance, enforcement, planning, and regulation development. 

 

Our Environmental Services Division can assist clients by facilitating the permitting process, assisting with compliance and enforcement issues, and addressing local planning issues.  Other services include providing expert testimony on solid waste permitting, representing clients at public meetings and public hearings, writing solid waste management plans, and facilitating meetings with public interest groups. 

 

Clients include manufacturing industries, waste management companies, construction and demolition contractors, local governments, the mining industry, recycling companies, and citizens concerned about the environment.


Nicki Davis - Corporate Vice President

Nicki S. Davis is the Corporate Vice President of Capitol Consultants and serves as an Association Executive.  In this capacity, she coordinates annual conventions and trade shows and plans continuing education and informational seminars.  She oversees volunteers, manages committee functions, as well as designing and producing monthly and quarterly publications.  She facilitates fundraising & special events including golf tournaments, blood and food drives, educational seminars and conventions.  Additionally, she serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Capitol Consultants. 


Keely Fagen Yates - Senior Vice President-Association Management Division

Keely Fagen Yates is a Senior Vice President of the Association Management Division for Capitol Consultants, Inc.  She facilitates all daily activities and special events for statewide trade and professional associations ranging in membership from 30 companies to 6,500 individuals.  Ms. Yates' duties include meeting, trade show and convention planning,  member communications, financial and accounting activities, database management, coordinating fundraising and special events, and organizing educational seminars and workshops.  Ms. Yates also composes and distributes routine member correspondence, designs and disseminates postcards, brochures, signs, newsletters, and membership directories, and maintains association websites.  As the Senior Vice President of the Association Management Division, she supervises client relations for all association clients.

Ms. Yates is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston.


Bill Meetze - Director of State Procurement Services

Bill Meetze is the Director of State Procurement Services at Capitol Consultants. Mr. Meetze spent 31 years with Burroughs/Unisys where he directed Unisys sales and marketing efforts to South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia as Branch Manager and State Relationship Executive. In his role at Capitol Consultants, Mr. Meetze assists clients in developing business opportunities with South Carolina State and local governments. 


Ashley Smith - Director of Governmental Affairs

Ashley J. Smith, a native of Greenville, SC, is the Director of Governmental Affairs at Capitol Consultants.  Ms. Smith has been a registered lobbyist in South Carolina for five years and has extensive experience in testifying, preparing others for testimony and daily lobbying in the General Assembly on behalf of clients. 

Ms. Smith's responsibilities also include working with clients and legislative staff to draft bills, coordinate subcommittee and committee meetings and serve as an information resource for legislators.  She prepares talking points for clients and is the media liaison for our legislative clients.  She publishes "The Capitol Reporter," a quarterly newsletter for Capitol Consultants' clients.  She assists in supervising the other members of the legislative team.

Heather Smith - Director of Legislative Affairs

Heather F. Smith, a native of Columbia, SC, is the Director of Legislative Affairs at Capitol Consultants.  As a lobbyist, Ms. Smith also comes to Capitol Consultants with a political background.  Her past political experience has included running Richland County’s Victory 2006 phone bank, Executive Assistant to the House Judiciary Committee, and Government Affairs Coordinator for the South Carolina Association of Realtors.

Ms. Smith is a Cum Laude graduate of the University of South Carolina with a B.A. degree in Communications from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, specializing in Public Relations and political science.

 


Donald Wood - Management Executive and Media and Legislative Coordinator

Donald Wood, a South Carolina native, has served as a Management Executive, Media and Legislative Coordinator at Capitol Consultants since February 2003.  Mr. Wood was previously employed by The State newspaper for 15 years and most recently served as Reader Relations Supervisor in the newsroom. Mr. Wood attended the University of South Carolina and majored in Political Science and History.  At Capitol Consultants, Mr. Wood manages a business group and serves as an association management executive.  He also assists in monitoring the actions of the General Assembly and obtaining critical information and distributing it to clients in a timely fashion.

Laura Stuckey - Association Executive

Laura Stuckey, a native of South Carolina, works as an association executive.  She rejoined Capitol Consultants in late 2005.  Ms. Stuckey previously worked at Capitol Consultants from November 1998-January 2003 as an association executive.  In 2003, she relocated to Athens, Georgia, to expand her knowledge in event planning by managing of a full-service event facility that included a restaurant, catering operation and florist.  Immediately prior to rejoining Capitol Consultants, Ms. Stuckey was employed by the SC Nurses Association.  Ms. Stuckey earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Francis Marion University.


Gabrielle Barnes - Association Executive

Originally from Virginia, Gabrielle Barnes has been with Capitol Consultants, Inc. since February 2005 where she serves as an Association Executive. Prior to joining Capitol Consultants, Ms. Barnes worked as the Director of Adventures Advertising Agency in Midlands, Virginia. Ms. Barnes is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications.

Kristen Brown - Association Executive

Originally from Ohio, Kristen joined Capitol Consultants in March of 2008, where she serves as an Association Executive. Prior to joining Capitol Consultants, Mrs. Brown worked as the Continuing Education Coordinator for the SC Association of CPAs. Mrs. Brown is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Restaurant and Tourism Management.

Caroline Fields - Association Executive

Caroline Fields, a native of Spartanburg, SC, recently graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. As an Association Executive, Ms. Fields is involved in all the daily functions of managing an association.  Ms. Fields also has work experience in public relations and marketing. 

Mary Katherine Marshall - Association Executive

Since graduating from the College of Charleston in 1999, Ms. Marshall has worked extensively in marketing, development, sponsor solicitation and events management. Among  events and programs she has organized and managed are:  local horse shows, commercial and residential real estate employee training, auctions, college admissions open houses and campus events, golf tournaments, galas, sporting clay tournaments and cultivation events.  Prior to joining the staff of Capitol Consultants, Ms. Marshall worked for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia, Providence Hospital and Healthy Learners.


Brad Leake - Legislative Assistant

Brad Leake is a legislative assistant to the Lobbying team.  Originally from Texas, he is currently a senior at the University of South Carolina. 

Alyssa Medici - Office Administrator

A California native, Alyssa studied Business Economics at the University of California at Santa Barbara, prior to working as the Office Administrator with Capitol Consultants. Alyssa has accumulated extensive experience in customer service and client relations which includes a banking background in new accounts and loan services. In addition, Alyssa also has more than five years experience in retail management and sales.
